The Hug a Tree and Survive is a program designed to teach children how not to get lost and what to do if they are. It has been in use in Canada for almost 20 years and more than a quarter million children have been taught to ‘Hug a Tree’.
Production on an updated video which makes up part of the Hug a Tree program is underway at Beaudry Provincial Park this week and media are invited to attend on Friday, August 21 between 11.00 AM and 1:00 PM. Members of Winnipeg Police will be on hand to discuss the program, how it is being used and what the expected outcomes are.
The media will have a chance to see Search and Rescue responders, including Winnipeg Police, the RCMP and Winnipeg Search and Rescue Volunteer team in action and also get a sneak- peek at the production work in progress for the new video.
This valuable program is supported by the NSS (the National Search and Rescue Secretariat) and delivered by SARVAC (the Search and Rescue Volunteer Association of Canada) through their members Canada wide. Representatives from both NSS and SARVAC will also be on hand for interviews.
