We are pleased to share the announcement made yesterday by the Honourable John Hogan QC, Minister of Justice & Public Safety and Attorney General for Newfoundland and Labrador, allocating approximately $1 million in additional funding that will go to the Newfoundland and Labrador Search and Rescue Association (NLSARA).
Following recommendations made throughout the Public Inquiry Respecting Ground Search and Rescue for Lost and Missing Persons, this amount will be made in addition to $775,000 provided to the NLSARA since the conclusion of the Inquiry which will aide the 24 NLSARA teams with itsβ expansion as an Association with the formation of 5 new GSAR teams on the north and south coasts of Labrador.
This news is amongst other budget announcements that include over $40 million devoted to a number of initiatives; including over $21 million to support the procurement of a Province-Wide Radio System enabling emergency responders to communicate in a timely manner with one another.
We could not be more grateful for the news, and sincerely thank the Provincial Government with its strategic planning and investment to support public safety and emergency services to ensure that Newfoundland and Labrador remains a safe place to live, work, volunteer and raise a family.
